Vamola is finally in the fight against the stitched together dinosaur, and the plan is to answer a kaiju with a kaiju.

It does not go to plan. However, her repaired suit glitches the moment she uses it, and the chapter becomes a lesson in fighting smart rather than fighting big.

Where Dandadan 246 left things

Chapter 246 split its time. Away from the fighting, Basho told Count Saint Germain that the Oni Club she gave Takakura has been growing an Oni inside Okarun, and that one more push should turn him completely. At the track meet, Evil Eye and Aira kept throwing everything at the kaiju and kept losing ground. Aira admitted they could not win, Evil Eye refused to hand the fight over, and the last page brought Vamola sprinting in.

Dandadan 247 spoilers: the suit throws an error

Vamola explains that the Mantis Shrimp alien repaired her suit. Aira is relieved for roughly one panel. As soon as Vamola tries to power up, the suit flashes an error and stops listening to her.

What follows is classic Dandadan slapstick. The suit swings on its own, Aira and Vamola are both yelling at it to stop, Evil Eye catches a stray hit, and Aira is ready to go and pull the Mantis Shrimp alien’s claws off personally. Then the malfunction settles into something useful. The suit grows Vamola to kaiju size.

So the title delivers: two kaiju squaring off over the town. However, size alone does not win it. The dinosaur’s tail catches Vamola and hurts her, and when she answers with a kick, its hide barely reacts. For a moment the new form looks like a bigger target and nothing more.

Vamola also seems to understand the stakes of this form quickly. A serious injury at this size is not something she can shrug off, which makes every exchange riskier than a normal brawl.

Dandadan 247 spoilers: Aira finds the weak point

This is the best part of the chapter. Instead of trying to match the monster’s power, Aira studies how it is built. The kaiju is a pile of dinosaur bones forced together and covered in flesh, and Aira’s point is simple: joints that were never meant to fit together like that should make it weaker than a normal animal, not stronger.

Then she connects it to what already happened. Vamola’s last kick landed on a joint, and Aira tells her that was the right idea. The only open question is how much punishment those joints can actually take. Vamola, now very much enjoying being enormous, gets ready to go after them.

Meanwhile Evil Eye, still in Jiji’s body, is openly jealous that Vamola got a giant form and he did not. The chapter ends with the plan set: stop trading hits with the kaiju and start breaking it apart at the seams.

Why Vamola’s suit malfunctioned

None of the Dandadan 247 spoilers explain the error. The obvious reading is that the Mantis Shrimp alien’s repair was rushed or imperfect, and the giant form is a side effect rather than a feature. Treat that as a theory until a later chapter confirms it. What the chapter does make clear is that Vamola cannot fully control the form yet, which is exactly the kind of problem Dandadan likes to pay off in the middle of a fight.

My take: I like this chapter more than its plot summary suggests. On paper it is a power up that backfires, which is one of the oldest beats in shonen. What saves it is that the actual win condition comes from Aira thinking, not from Vamola getting bigger. Tatsu sets up a kaiju versus kaiju fight and then immediately tells you size is not the answer, which is a very Dandadan move. It also fixes a problem this arc has had for weeks. The track meet fight has mostly been characters hitting something that does not care, and that gets repetitive fast. Giving the kaiju a readable weakness, mismatched joints that should not hold together, turns it from a wall into a puzzle. Puzzles are where this series is at its best. My prediction: the suit’s error is not a one off gag. It will come back at the worst possible moment, probably right as Vamola is about to land the finishing blow, and the real damage will come from Aira or Evil Eye exploiting an opening she creates. Meanwhile the Okarun Oni plot from chapter 246 is still hanging over everything, and I suspect this fight ends just in time for that to land.
