Dandadan 246 Spoilers: Okarun Is Turning Into an Oni

Dandadan 246 finally says the quiet part out loud. Somebody is deliberately turning Okarun into an Oni, and they have been doing it for a while.

Chapter 246, titled The Oni Club and How to Use It, landed on Monday September 14, 2026. Here is the full breakdown, plus where chapter 247 leaves things.

Quick recap of chapter 245

Chapter 245 was called The Man All Hopes Are On, and the man in question was Kinta. Reinforcements arrive, Hash and Code transform immediately, and Kinta turns the tank into a flying tank.

Then Kinta does the thing nobody expected. He suits up in a mecha form he calls Freedom, built from everything he got wrong last time. Meanwhile Yatagarasu clears out a line of attackers, and the chapter closes on Momo treating Okarun as something starts happening to him.

Dandadan 246: Basho makes her report

The chapter opens away from the fighting. Count Saint Germain arrives and asks Basho how things are going with the boy. She drops the disguise and answers him properly.

She gave Takakura the Oni Club. That is the whole plan, and it has been working the entire time.

Because of that club, an Oni sprout is growing inside Okarun. It rises whenever he is under real stress.

Saint Germain is blunt about what comes next. One more push, and he is certain Okarun turns fully Oni.

The Kozuka knife problem in Dandadan 246

Here is the part that complicates their plan. Saint Germain already tried to take Turbo Granny’s power directly, using a Kozuka blade. When it touched Okarun, nothing happened.

If a Kozuka does not react, the power cannot be stolen. So either the power is buried far deeper inside him than they assumed, or somebody hid it there on purpose.

That is why they are forcing the Oni transformation instead. Their bet is that turning him will finally make Turbo Granny’s power evolve, and surface.

Dandadan 246 and the kaiju nobody can beat

Back at the track meet, Evil Eye is still going at the kaiju and refusing to stop. Aira helps by throwing him at it, which is a very Dandadan solution to a problem.

It does not work. The kaiju hits back, the tail nearly catches both of them, and they end up running.

Aira admits they cannot win this. Even Evil Eye calls the thing brutal, which from him counts as a full confession. Then Vamola comes sprinting in, and Aira immediately says she can finish it.

Evil Eye refuses. The kaiju is his opponent, and he intends to be the one who takes it down.

So is this Okarun’s new form?

Probably, and that is the point of Dandadan 246. Everything Basho describes is a setup for a transformation rather than a power up he chooses.

However, it comes with a catch worth remembering. This form is being grown inside him by people who want to harvest it. Therefore it is closer to a trap than a reward, and Okarun does not know it is happening.

My take: Yukinobu Tatsu just turned the coolest possible power up into something genuinely sinister. Okarun getting an Oni form should be the moment you cheer. Instead we find out it was planted in him, watered with his own suffering, and the people doing it are standing in a courtyard flirting while they discuss it. That contrast is the whole series. I love it and I hate it.
