Chapter 139.2 recap: Anya reads the final boss
The heart of the chapter is Anya pushing her telepathy at Donovan Desmond inside the hospital. She gets through, and what she finds is not what anyone expected.
Desmond is straining to work out what the people around him are thinking. He cannot simply know it. Therefore the man the fandom has spent years calling the final boss does not share Anya’s gift at all.
That single fact reframes a lot. If Desmond is dangerous, and he clearly is, then it is not because he can hear anyone’s thoughts.
The cost of using her powers
Anya does not get away with it. Yor finds her and immediately spots blood coming from her nose, which is what happens when Anya pushes too hard.
So Yor rushes her back for a look. The doctor asks whether it happens often, then tells her to stop picking her nose, which is a very Spy x Family way to defuse a scare.
Meanwhile Fiona is listening in nearby and very nearly gets caught. Desmond’s bodyguard senses something and checks her room, but she has already covered herself. Then Desmond leaves without agreeing to appear at the symposium, and Fiona takes what she heard back to Twilight.
School, Damian and the aliens
Yor still takes Anya to school afterwards, because Loid asked her to make sure Anya got there. Anya, understandably, has other ideas.
In class she keeps looking at Damian, because she wants to ask him about his father. Damian notices, and tells her to just ask whatever silly thing is on her mind. What comes out is that she is sad aliens do not exist. The boys immediately insist that they do.
The chapter closes at home. Yor tells Anya to sleep properly because she might see Loid tomorrow. Anya tries, her mind keeps returning to the hospital, and she ends up curled up next to Yor instead. It is a small, warm ending after a heavy chapter.
Spy x Family 140 spoilers, and what we actually know
Very little has leaked this time, so treat everything below as speculation rather than reporting.
The obvious thread is Desmond. Anya now knows what he cannot do, which raises the better question of what he can. Loid has also been absent for a stretch, so his return feels due, and Anya sitting on intelligence that Fiona could never get is a genuinely funny position for this family to be in.

My take: I love that the big reveal is a negative. Endo could have given Desmond some enormous hidden ability, and instead he told us the scariest man in the story is just a man, sitting in a room, guessing at what everyone around him wants. That is far more unsettling, and it makes Anya’s gift feel genuinely rare again rather than one power among many. The nosebleed matters too. This series has always been careful to charge Anya something for what she does, and pairing that with Yor bundling her off to the doctor is exactly why the family stuff still works after 140 chapters.
