Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers Sequel Anime Releases First Action Preview
The official website for Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers, the new sequel anime to the classic Yoroiden Samurai Troopers series, has released a short first look video. The clip offers a brief glimpse at the action sequences fans can expect when the series premieres in January 2026.
The main cast includes Hiiro Ishibashi as Gai, Junya Enoki as Kaito Uesugi (Sōkyū no Kaito), Ayumu Murase as Musashi Hōjō (Suiren no Musashi), Shunsuke Takeuchi as Yamato Hōjō (Kōya no Yamato), and Kentarō Kumagai as Shion Ishida (Senkō no Shion).
Yōichi Fujita, known for his work on Gintama and Mr. Osomatsu, is directing the new anime at Sunrise. Shōgo Mutō is supervising and writing the series scripts, with the original story credited to Hajime Yatate, Sunrise’s collective creative pen name.
The original Yoroiden Samurai Troopers aired from 1988 to 1989 and followed five young warriors who don legendary samurai armor to battle the demon emperor Arago. Cartoon Network brought the series to US audiences under the title Ronin Warriors. The original run is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
My take: Seeing a proper sequel to a beloved late 1980s series arrive with a strong cast and a director like Yōichi Fujita on board is genuinely exciting. The brief action preview looks promising, and there is something wonderful about a franchise with this much history getting a real continuation.
