Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Energy and Techniques Explained
Jujutsu Kaisen’s power system is one of the most rule heavy in modern shonen, and the series rewards viewers who understand it. Here is cursed energy from the ground up.
Where cursed energy comes from
Negative emotions leak cursed energy. Ordinary humans produce it without control, and it pools into curses, the monsters sorcerers fight. Sorcerers are people who can channel the energy deliberately, reinforcing their bodies or fueling techniques. The catch is that curses are born from human fear, so the more sorcerers fail, the more curses appear.
Innate techniques
Most sorcerers are born with a single technique engraved in their body, like Megumi’s Ten Shadows or Nobara’s Straw Doll. Techniques cannot be learned, only inherited, which is why clans like the Gojo and Zenin guard their bloodlines. Gojo’s Limitless and Six Eyes combination is the extreme case: two inherited traits that together make him nearly untouchable.
Advanced applications
Reverse cursed technique multiplies negative energy into positive to heal, and almost nobody can do it. Binding vows trade a restriction for power, which is how Sukuna’s deal with Yuji works. Black Flash is a precise hit where energy and impact land within a fraction of a second, multiplying damage and often awakening a sorcerer’s understanding of their own power.
Domain expansion
The ceiling of the system. A sorcerer manifests their inner world as a barrier where their technique hits automatically. Domains clash by refinement, and only the strongest can even attempt one. Gojo’s Unlimited Void and Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine are the two the series treats as absolute.
My take: The genius of the system is that it runs on negativity. Every sorcerer is fueled by pain, and the show never lets you forget what that costs.
