Live Action 10Dance Film on Netflix Announces Additional Cast Members

Netflix Japan has announced additional cast members for the live action film adaptation of Satoh Inoue’s 10 Dance boys love manga. Shiori Doi, known for live action River’s Edge and The Tiger and Her Wings, joins as Aki Tajima, Shinya Suzuki’s dance partner. Anna Ishii, known for live action Oshi no Ko and Girl Gun Lady, plays Fusako Yagami, Shinya Sugiki’s dance partner.

The film has also cast Shinya Hamada from live action The Door into Summer and Oshiro Maeda from live action My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999, among others. The additions round out the supporting cast around the story’s two lead characters, professional dancers whose intense competitive rivalry develops into something deeper.

The 10 Dance manga ran in Kodansha’s Monthly Comic Zero Sum and built a devoted readership for its combination of competitive ballroom dancing, emotional depth, and boys love storytelling. The Netflix film adaptation gives the story a high-profile platform for international audiences.

My take: The casting choices here look thoughtful. Shiori Doi and Anna Ishii both bring real presence to their respective roles, and the supporting additions suggest the film is building a full world around its central partnership. 10 Dance has always deserved a wider audience and a Netflix film is a solid way to find one.
