Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Adds Persona 5’s Joker This Week
Sega announced on X this week that Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is adding Persona 5’s Joker as a playable racer. He joins the roster on Wednesday, October 22.
To mark the arrival, a Joker Festival event runs from Thursday through Sunday, beginning at 8:00 p.m. EDT. As with past festivals, the World Match mode will be paused while the event is live.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds first launched on September 25 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. A Switch 2 version follows digitally in the 2025 holiday season and physically in early 2026, and Switch owners will be able to upgrade while keeping their progress.
The game is packed with guest characters. It already features Sega favorites like Hatsune Miku, and it is crossing over with Nickelodeon series including SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. A Minecraft pack arrived on October 9, while Bandai Namco and Capcom packs featuring the likes of Pac Man and Mega Man are planned for 2026.
For a bit of background, this is the latest in Sega’s kart racing line following Team Sonic Racing from 2021, and the franchise even launched a tie in animation project back on August 29.
My take: The guest list here is wonderfully over the top, and adding Joker only sweetens it. Crossovers like this are pure fun, and I love seeing so many worlds share one race track.
