Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! Anime English Dub Debuts
Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that the English dub for the anime Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! began streaming the following day, on Thursday. The show is based on the light novel series by Kanata Hoshi.
The dub is led by director Shawn Gann, with Susie Nixon producing and Domonique French adapting the script. The anime itself premiered on TBS on October 2, after shifting from an earlier April slot, and Crunchyroll has been streaming it worldwide outside of Asia.
Behind the scenes, Mutsumi Takeda directs at Asahi Production, with Keiichirō Ōchi, known for The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, overseeing the scripts. The idol group AVAM performs the opening theme, Sugary Story, while Shunichi Toki sings the ending song.
The story is a charming fantasy romance about Melphiera, an earl’s daughter who is quietly shunned by other nobles thanks to rumors about her unusual taste for monster based cooking. When a monster attacks her at a party, she is rescued by Aristide of Galbraith, a man feared as the Blood Mad Duke.
To her surprise, Aristide takes a genuine liking to her, and even grows curious about the very hobby she had always kept hidden. Kodansha publishes the manga adaptation in English.
My take: A heroine bonding with a feared duke over a shared love of monster cuisine is such a delightfully odd hook. It sounds like cozy, slightly gothic fun, and a quick dub means more people can dig in.
