Once Upon a Katamari Reveals Chill Prince Music Video
Bandai Namco Entertainment is getting fans in the mood for its next rolling adventure. On Monday the company shared a music video for Once Upon a Katamari, the newest entry in the beloved Katamari Damacy series, set to the song “Chill Prince” by Kenji Ninuma.
The game arrives on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on October 24. It brings new stages and new songs while keeping the cheerfully chaotic gameplay the series is known for.
The premise is as delightfully silly as ever. After the King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys the Earth and the stars all over again, it falls to The Prince to time travel and piece the night sky back together. You can customize The Prince and all 68 of his cousins with different colors and facial features.
This time there is also a new four player competitive mode called “KatamariBall,” where everyone races to roll the biggest ball, with both online and offline play supported. A Deluxe King of All Sounds edition sweetens the deal with 60 songs and 26 costumes pulled from past games.
The franchise has rolled a long way since the original Katamari Damacy arrived on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. It has since spread across many platforms, including the HD remaster Katamari Damacy Reroll in 2018 and We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie in June 2023, with the mobile title Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE launching more recently on April 3.
My take: Few series are as pure hearted and goofy as Katamari, and a brand new mainline entry with a four player mode sounds like exactly the kind of joyful chaos I have missed.
