Let This Grieving Soul Retire Season 2 Casts Himika Akaneya
The second season of Let This Grieving Soul Retire! has announced a new cast member. Voice actress Himika Akaneya will voice Ryuulan, the leader of the underground people known as the Underman. The character is set to appear starting in episode 18, titled “I Just Want a Relaxing Hot Spring Soak.”
The second season premiered on October 6 on Tokyo MX and BS NTV. Early streaming began on October 4 through d Anime Store and ABEMA. Kiyono Yasuno performs the opening theme “Algorithm,” while i☆Ris handles the ending theme “Yume no Hitokakera,” which translates roughly to Fragment of a Dream.
The anime is based on the light novel series by Tsukikage and Chyko. J-Novel Club publishes the novels in English. The story follows Krai Andrey, a healer whose childhood friends grew up dreaming of becoming the greatest heroes. Krai, however, quietly realized early on that the hero life was not for him. Even so, expectations kept piling up while his friends climbed closer to their dreams, leaving Krai with one simple wish: to retire in peace.
The first season aired in October 2024. Masahiro Takata directed that season at Zero-G, with Hideki Shirane overseeing the series scripts and Yūsuke Isouchi and Shingo Fujisaki handling character design.
My take: A character who leads an entire underground civilization sounds like a fun contrast to Krai’s very ordinary goal of just being left alone. The second season has been building its cast nicely, and adding Himika Akaneya is a welcome choice.
