Kagurabachi Manga Takes a Brief Break and Returns November 4

The Kagurabachi manga will be taking a short break due to production reasons. The series will not appear in the 48th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, which is due out on October 27. It is expected to return in the 49th issue on November 4. This is the second unplanned break for the series this year; it also stepped out for a week in June following a sudden illness affecting creator Takeru Hokazono.

Hokazono launched Kagurabachi in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023 and the series has grown quickly. The ninth compiled volume arrived on October 3, and the manga has over 2.2 million copies in circulation. It topped the print category at the Next Manga Awards 2024 and was nominated for this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards. Viz Media’s Shonen Jump platform releases the series digitally in English.

The story centers on a boy named Chihiro who spends his days training alongside his swordsmith father, dreaming of one day carrying on the craft. When tragedy tears that life away, Chihiro’s path turns toward revenge, and the series follows his journey through a world of intense sword-based action.

There is also some background buzz around the possibility of a Kagurabachi anime. A report from the finance outlet Toyo Keizai Online indicated the series could be headed to animation at Cygames Pictures through a joint effort involving CyberAgent and Shochiku, though neither company has confirmed anything when reached for comment.

My take: A short rest is a reasonable thing after the pace Hokazono has been keeping. Kagurabachi earned its readership fast, and taking the time to make sure the quality stays consistent seems far more important than missing a single issue.
