Ghost of Yotei Debuts at Number One in Japan
Japan’s game sales chart for the week of September 29 to October 5 was led by a major new release. Ghost of Yotei, the latest from Sony Interactive Entertainment, launched straight to number one on PlayStation 5 with around 120,000 copies sold.
Nintendo had a strong showing too, as the Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 collection arrived at number two, while the ever popular Mario Kart World held firm at number four.
Square Enix’s remaster Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles also made a big splash. The Switch version debuted at number three, and its PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 editions charted as well, giving the title three separate spots in the top ten.
Other newcomers rounded out the week, including Digimon Story: Time Stranger from Bandai Namco at number six and the horror title Silent Hill f holding on at number eight.
My take: It is a great week for fans of meatier games, with a sweeping samurai adventure and a beloved tactics remaster arriving at once. I am especially glad to see Final Fantasy Tactics finding such a warm welcome back.
