Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles 2 Adds Kaigaku DLC
Aniplex has shared a new trailer for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, The Hinokami Chronicles 2, the follow up to the 2021 fighting game. The video confirms that Kaigaku, the first add on character from the Infinity Castle Part 1 Character Pass, arrives on Thursday, October 30.
The paid Character Pass brings fighters tied to the recent film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza Returns into the game’s VS. Mode. That lineup includes Doma, Kaigaku, and Infinity Castle versions of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Giyu, Shinobu, and Akaza. They roll out one by one, starting with Kaigaku, then Zenitsu, Tanjiro, Giyu, Shinobu, Doma, and finally Akaza. A free update had already added Muzan Kibutsuji to VS. Mode back on September 18.
The sequel launched in Japan on August 1 and in English on August 5 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam. Players who picked up the Deluxe Edition could jump in up to five days early, and that edition packs in extra character unlock keys for fighters like Kyojuro Rengoku and Tengen Uzui, plus bonus VS. Mode voices and costumes.
Story mode picks up where the first game left off and carries through the Entertainment District Arc, the Swordsmith Village Arc, and the Hashira Training Arc. VS. Mode now holds more than 40 playable characters, including Muichiro Tokito and Mitsuri Kanroji, with every fighter from the original game returning and all nine Hashira ready to play.
CyberConnect2 is handling development while Aniplex publishes, the same pairing behind the 2021 original. That first game reached players in late 2021, with its Switch version following in June 2022.
My take: I like that the sequel keeps adding film characters over time, since it gives fans a gentle reason to keep coming back instead of feeling like they unlocked everything on day one.
