Luigi’s Mansion Joins the Nintendo Classics GameCube Library
Nintendo announced on Tuesday that the original 2001 Luigi’s Mansion is joining the Nintendo GameCube collection within Nintendo Classics. Starting October 30, members of Nintendo Switch Online plus the Expansion Pack will be able to play it on Nintendo Switch 2.
In the game, Luigi wins a grand mansion, only to discover it is overrun with ghosts and that Mario has gone missing. Far from the bravest hero around, Luigi has to push through the haunted halls anyway, helped along by the eccentric Professor E. Gadd.
His main tool is the Poltergust 3000, a vacuum built for catching ghosts, along with the Game Boy Horror device for tracking down clues and secrets. The goal, of course, is to rescue Mario from a spooky fate.
With this addition, all three Luigi’s Mansion games are now playable on Switch 2. The original was followed by Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013 and Luigi’s Mansion 3 on the Switch in 2019.
My take: The first Luigi’s Mansion still holds a special charm, so it is lovely to see it easy to play again. It also makes a perfect pick for a cozy, slightly spooky evening.
