WEBTOON and Disney Reveal More Reformatted Comics at NYCC
At New York Comic Con 2025, WEBTOON Entertainment and Disney shared the next group of comic series being reformatted for the WEBTOON platform. It builds on titles already available there, such as Amazing Spider Man, Avengers, Star Wars, and Alien, and deepens WEBTOON’s partnership with Disney and Marvel.
The new additions include Astonishing X Men, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Stitch Samurai: The Complete Collection, and a pair of Star Wars titles in Darth Vader: Black, White and Red and Lost Stars.
WEBTOON also confirmed that Dark Horse Comics’ Stranger Things: The Other Side is coming to the platform. That story follows Will Byers and what he goes through during the events of the show’s first season, with a release date to be shared later.
There is something for lighter tastes too, as another Dark Horse favorite, Plants vs Zombies, makes its WEBTOON debut on November 1. It brings the cheerful battle between plants and zombies to the vertical scroll format for the first time.
These reveals tie into a much larger plan. Back in August, WEBTOON and Disney announced a multi year deal to adapt and distribute around 100 comics from Disney, Marvel, 20th Century Studios, and Star Wars, and by September the two had agreed to explore a brand new digital comics service that could hold more than 35,000 titles across Disney’s libraries in both vertical scroll and traditional formats.
My take: Bringing classic comics to the vertical scroll format is a smart way to welcome new readers. I am especially curious to see how the Star Wars and Stranger Things stories feel in that style.
