Another Is the Perfect Horror Anime for Halloween 2025
Halloween is the perfect excuse to finally clear out the horror titles sitting on your watchlist. Plenty of people reach for the usual scary movies, but if you want something a little different, there is a short horror anime that delivers exactly the kind of dread you are after. That title is Another.
Japan has long been a home for folklore about yokai, the supernatural spirits and demons that fill its old tales, and a lot of horror anime draw straight from that well. Among the many options, Another stands out as a horror and mystery blend that knows how to unsettle you.
The story follows Koichi Sakakibara, who transfers to Yomiyama North Junior High expecting a fresh start. Instead he walks into a cloud of dread. Something is clearly wrong with his class, his new classmates refuse to explain the past, and he keeps noticing a girl with an eye patch who no one else seems to acknowledge. A curse hangs over everything, and tragedy soon follows. Whether Koichi can break it is the heart of the show.
Another is a close adaptation of the seinen manga by Yukito Ayatsuji and Hiro Kiyohara. Since its release in 2012 it has stayed near the top of horror anime recommendations, holding one of the largest followings in the genre on MyAnimeList behind Tokyo Ghoul and Parasyte. It builds its creepy mood first and then slowly peels back the horror, with solid animation from P.A. Works and a score that keeps you on edge. Fans often call it Final Destination style, and you will understand why pretty quickly.
Best of all, it is an easy commitment. Another runs just 12 episodes, each around 22 to 25 minutes, so you can comfortably get through the whole thing over a spooky weekend.
My take: If you want a horror anime that is genuinely eerie without demanding a huge time investment, Another is a great pick. It is the kind of show that lingers in your head long after the credits.
