Apothecary Diaries Gets Season 3 and a Movie in 2026
Good news for fans of The Apothecary Diaries: the series is officially coming back for a third season, and there is a theatrical movie on the way as well. The announcements came during a Second Anniversary stream.
Season three will arrive in two parts. The first is set for October 2026, with the second following in April 2027 as part of that spring’s lineup. In between the two, a film will land in December 2026, built around an original story written by the series author Natsu Hyuga.
For anyone new to it, the show follows Maomao, a sharp young apothecary who tends to the many ailments within a grand imperial palace using her homemade remedies and potions. Its popularity has only grown over the past year, carrying it into the ranks of the most watched anime around.
There had been a little worry among fans before this reveal, since season two wrapped in July and the quiet stretch afterward left people unsure what was next for Maomao. Happily, the series now has a clear and busy road ahead.
The jump to cinemas fits a wider trend, coming on the heels of the huge theatrical runs for the Demon Slayer Infinity Castle film and Chainsaw Man’s Reze Arc movie. More and more, the big screen is becoming a natural home for anime events.
My take: I am thrilled Maomao is getting both a new season and a film. Her quiet, clever brand of palace sleuthing is a joy, and a feature length mystery sounds like the perfect treat.
