Trigger’s New Web Anime The Lenticulars Is Streaming Now
Studio Trigger has unveiled a new web anime series called The Lenticulars. The first episode, titled Work Gloves are Gloves, is available to watch right now, and new episodes will roll out every Friday at 8:00 p.m. JST, which works out to 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time for viewers outside Japan. English subtitles are available and can be toggled on.
Akira Amemiya is handling just about every creative role on the series himself. He is directing, writing the scripts, designing the characters, storyboarding, working as an episode director, animating, and doing the color work. Rikiya Okada of 24chocolate is composing the original music, and the theme song, also called The Lenticulars, features lyrics and composition by Kōsuke Hayashi and is performed by Scenarioart.
The voice cast features Manato Ōkawara as Rakkun, Uta Aihara as Sawaki-san, Yū Nishizawa as Miike, and Keigo Moriura as Dony.
Amemiya has a long history with the Trigger family. He came up as an animator at GAINAX, where he worked on titles including Gurren Lagann and Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. After joining Trigger, he made his directing debut with Inferno Cop and later shared directing duties on Kill la Kill. He has since directed Ninja Slayer From Animation, helped lead the fifth anniversary project Space Patrol Luluco, and has been a key creative force behind the Gridman Universe franchise. Most recently he directed Trigger’s Transformers 40th Anniversary Special Movie.
My take: Amemiya wearing every hat on a project like this is very on brand for Trigger, and the results from that studio when someone goes all in creatively tend to be worth watching. I am looking forward to seeing what The Lenticulars turns into over its weekly run.
