Ryousuke Hata’s Elf Wife Novel Gets a Manga Adaptation
Hero’s Inc. announced on Friday through its Comiplex manga website that Ryousuke Hata’s web novel The Eternal Journey with My Elf Wife is being adapted into a manga. The artist hu-ko is drawing it, and the series begins on the platform on October 24.
The story follows Renath, a legendary hero who falls into a long cryogenic sleep after drinking a deadly poison in the wake of defeating the demon king. When he finally wakes, his beloved elf wife is right there beside him, and the two set off on a gentle honeymoon across the world they once saved a century earlier.
Hata first began posting the novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in April 2021, where it built up a following before this adaptation.
Hata has been busy elsewhere too. Another of the author’s stories, Reincarnated as the Villainess (Last Boss)!, received a manga by Rei Nakajima that started on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket in October 2023 and is published in English by Yen Press. Yen Press also carries Hata’s The Reformation of the World as Overseen by a Realist Demon King novels along with Manatsu Suzuki’s manga version.
My take: A honeymoon adventure after the big battle is won is such a sweet, refreshing angle for a fantasy. I love the idea of a story that lingers on the happily ever after rather than rushing past it.
