Hakuri Launches New Manga Series WITCHRIV on Shonen Jump Plus
Manga creator Hakuri is launching a new series on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform. The new work, titled WITCHRIV, is set to debut on October 23.
Hakuri is best known for One Room of Happiness, a story that began on pixiv and Twitter before moving to Gangan pixiv in February 2017. The manga concluded with its 11th volume in December 2022 and is published in English digitally by Crunchyroll. One Room of Happiness also inspired a live-action adaptation that premiered on AbemaTV in 2018.
Hakuri also wrote Seikai no Tantei, a prequel spinoff to One Room of Happiness centered on detective character Hijiri Matsubase. That series launched in September 2019 and wrapped up in its fourth volume in May 2022.
With WITCHRIV, Hakuri is starting a fresh chapter on one of manga’s most prominent digital platforms. Shonen Jump+ has been a launching ground for a number of high-profile series in recent years, so the new work should reach a wide and curious audience from day one.
My take: Hakuri has a real gift for building quiet, character-driven stories with unusual premises, so a new series launching on Shonen Jump+ is genuinely exciting news. WITCHRIV is a name that already sparks curiosity, and it will be fun to see what the story turns out to be.
