Detective Conan Rivals of the Great Detective Collection Comes to Netflix and Crunchyroll
Netflix and Crunchyroll are adding a second curated episode collection from the Detective Conan anime starting November 1. The new collection is titled Rivals of the Great Detective and focuses on Conan’s supporting cast of allies and adversaries. Like the first collection, episodes will be available in Japanese with English subtitles and with a new English dub.
The announcement came from TMS Entertainment, which produces the long-running series. The specific episodes included in the collection were not confirmed, but the theming around rivals and supporting characters suggests it will highlight some of the franchise’s most memorable recurring figures.
Alongside the streaming collection, TMS Entertainment’s Anime! on TMS YouTube channel is continuing its Detective Conan Cinema Saturdays campaign, streaming one film each Saturday at 10:00 p.m. EDT for the next three weeks. One of the upcoming films will feature a new English dub, replacing the older dub that previously circulated.
Detective Conan, known in some markets as Case Closed, has been running since 1996 and remains one of the longest continuously airing anime series in the world.
My take: Curating thematic episode collections is a genuinely smart way to make a 1,000 plus episode series accessible to new viewers. Focusing a collection on rivals is a great hook because some of the best Conan episodes are built around those recurring adversaries. This is a good on-ramp for anyone who has been curious about the series but intimidated by the episode count.
