Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai Romantic Comedy Manga Gets Anime Adaptation in 2026
ADK Emotions has launched an official website for an anime adaptation of Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?, the school romantic comedy manga by Norishiro-chan and Sakana Uozumi. The anime is set to premiere in 2026.
The manga has been running in Comic Zenon since August 2021. It currently has ten volumes in Japan, with the eleventh scheduled to ship on October 20, 2025. The series has crossed one million copies in circulation overall.
The story centers on Takuya Seo, a self-described otaku who sits right behind two popular gals in class, Ijichi and Amane. The two groups seem to have nothing in common until a borrowed eraser leads to a conversation where Takuya accidentally lets slip his feelings about a favorite anime. Amane immediately corrects him with impressive accuracy, which raises an interesting question: is she secretly a fan too?
It is the kind of setup that makes for a warm, low pressure romantic comedy, built around the gradual discovery that the people we assume are nothing like us might actually share more with us than expected.
Yen Press licensed the manga in English this past April and is releasing the first volume on October 28, 2025.
My take: The secret otaku gal premise is a well worn one at this point, but this series has clearly found its audience given the million copy milestone. Done right, this kind of rom com lives or dies on the chemistry of its leads, and if the anime can capture that awkward, funny energy of two people slowly realizing they have been judging each other unfairly, it should be a fun watch.
