Manga Mirai Adds First English TO Books Titles to Its Platform
Manga Mirai, the digital manga distribution service run as a joint venture between Media Do, NTT Docomo, Akatsuki Group, and MyAnimeList, has announced its first English releases of titles from publisher TO Books.
The new TO Books licenses include Erika Kamori’s manga adaptation of Mochiko Mochida’s I Want to Be Pampered by the Marquis of Ice! ~Reincarnated as a Girl with a Depressing Story~, as well as Azuma Hitajima and Isamu Hashihiro’s The Monster Life of The Freshly Grafted: The Comic. Additional titles from TO Books have also been acquired but not yet announced. All of these titles will be available first on Manga Mirai.
The platform is also adding titles from J-Novel Club, including Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill and A Wild Last Boss Appeared!. Readers can purchase individual volumes or, for select titles, individual chapters. Purchased titles can be read on the Manga Mirai website or through a dedicated app on iOS and Android. The service is integrated with MyAnimeList’s website.
My take: Getting TO Books titles into English digitally is a meaningful step, especially for readers who have been waiting on series that have not had an easy path to localization. The partnership between a publisher-backed platform and MyAnimeList’s existing audience makes a lot of sense as a discovery tool.
