Isshiki-san Wants to Know About Love Manga Gets an Anime
Kadokawa has opened an official website for a television anime based on Ayune Araragi’s romantic comedy manga Isshiki-san wa Koi wo Shiritai., known in English as Isshiki-san Wants to Know About Love. The news arrived on Friday, and Araragi drew a special illustration to mark the announcement.
The manga has an interesting history. Araragi first serialized it under the title Rinna Keibu wa Iki ga Dekinai in Comic REX from late 2016 into 2017, then relaunched it in Monthly Shounen Ace in December 2020. Kadokawa released its eighth volume in April, with a ninth due on October 23.
The story follows Inspector Rinna, a dedicated and well respected policewoman who finds her focus slipping at work. The cause turns out to be her partner, Detective Meishi, who distracts her in a way no one else does.
To make sense of these new and unfamiliar feelings, Rinna decides to explore dating as part of a pretend couple, and the comedy comes from watching this composed professional fumble through matters of the heart while balancing love and duty.
My take: A buttoned up detective who is hopeless at romance is a wonderfully endearing setup. Workplace comedies with a soft romantic core like this are right up my alley, so I will be keeping an eye on it.
