Whoever Steals This Book Film Reveals Full Cast Ahead of December Premiere
The Kono Hon wo Nusumu Mono wa film, based on Nowaki Fukamidori’s fantasy mystery novel and known in English as Whoever Steals This Book, has revealed its full additional cast along with 60 and 30 second trailers. The film premieres in Japanese theaters on December 26.
The newly revealed cast includes Shigeru Chiba as Junichirou Kaname, Ryouta Suzuki as Tanbi Che, Reina Ueda as Natsume Harada, Tomokazu Seki as Osamu Kikuchida, and Rie Takahashi as Shiori Haruta. The lineup brings together a strong mix of veteran and current anime voices. Rie Takahashi is fresh off her role in Dungeon Meshi and Tomokazu Seki remains one of the most versatile voices in the industry.
The film is directed by Daiki Fukuoka at Kagome Company, with series composition by Yasuhiro Nakanishi, character design by Keiko Kurosawa, and music by Michiru Oshima. Fukamidori’s original novel is a fantasy mystery built around the idea of books as living, guarded objects in a world where stealing the wrong one has serious consequences.
My take: This cast is stacked in the best possible way. Tomokazu Seki and Rie Takahashi in the same film is already a reason to pay attention, and the premise of a book-centric fantasy mystery is exactly the kind of niche concept that tends to build a devoted audience. December 26 is a strong premiere date. Looking forward to this one.
