Hiroko Moriguchi Records an Answer Song for Gundam F91

Back in 1991, singer Hiroko Moriguchi, a familiar voice in the Gundam world, performed Eternal Wind, the theme for the film Mobile Suit Gundam F91. Now, about 34 years later, she has recorded a heartfelt answer to it.

The new song is called Eternal Days, which carries the gentle subtitle I’m Glad You’re Here. Its lyrics speak to what comes after the film’s story, and in a sweet touch it even works in the title of the original theme, something the first song never did.

Moriguchi released the track digitally on October 17. It will appear on her 40th anniversary album, Your Flower, which is due on December 3 and will also include an a capella version of the Gundam F91 theme.

This is far from her only anime connection. Over the years she has sung for titles like Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island, Ronin Warriors, and One Punch Man, among others.

As for the film itself, Mobile Suit Gundam F91 opened in Japan in March 1991, later arrived on home video, and went on to inspire several prequel manga.

My take: Returning to a beloved song decades later to give it a gentle reply is such a lovely idea. For longtime Gundam fans, this feels like a warm gift across the years.
