Plus-sized Misadventures in Love Anime Adds Two Cast
The official website for the anime Plus-sized Misadventures in Love!, based on Mamakari’s romantic comedy manga, revealed two more cast members on Monday. The series premiered on October 6 across Tokyo MX, Sun TV, BS Fuji, and several other channels.
The newly announced voices are Akeno Watanabe and Yasuhiro Kikuchi, joining as the mother and father of the heroine, Yumeko.
Behind the scenes, Kazuomi Koga is directing at studio Marvy Jack, with Aya Watatane handling the series composition and scripts, Atsuko Takahashi on character designs, and Satoshi Houno and Kaori Nakano composing the music.
The story is a warm, body positive romantic comedy that follows Yumeko as she navigates love and her own insecurities, leaning into its themes with humor and heart rather than meanness.
Mamakari began the manga in 2019, and it has since grown to more than a dozen volumes, with an English edition available through the MangaPlaza website.
My take: A romantic comedy that treats body positivity with genuine kindness is exactly the kind of refreshing story worth celebrating. Casting Yumeko’s parents suggests the show wants to give her world real depth, which I love to see.
