A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace Casts Jun Fukuyama
The official account for the anime A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace, based on Kuzushiro’s manga Egao no Taenai Shokuba Desu., announced on Monday that Jun Fukuyama is joining the cast. He plays Masayuki Todo, the former editor of the protagonist Futami.
The anime premiered on Friday across AT-X, Tokyo MX, and BS Asahi, and it began streaming the same day in Japan on services including DMM TV, Lemino, and U-NEXT.
Behind the scenes, the series is directed at studio Voil, with Mio Inoue on scripts, Kana Miyai handling character designs, and music from Kei Haneoka and Hironori Doi. HoneyWorks performs the opening theme, while Sizuk handles the ending song.
The story is a workplace comedy about Nana Futami, a rookie shōjo manga artist supported by her steady editor Kaede Satō and her assistant Mizuki Hazama.
Much of the humor comes from Nana’s tendency to spiral into vivid delusions, something she likes to brush off as simply an occupational hazard of the manga making life.
My take: Comedies set inside the manga industry have a special, knowing charm, and a cast addition like Jun Fukuyama only sweetens it. A workplace full of warm, slightly chaotic creatives sounds like a delight.
