Plus-Sized Misadventures Anime Casts Yumeko’s Parents
The official account for the anime Plus-Sized Misadventures in Love, based on mamakari’s manga, announced on Monday that Akeno Watanabe and Yasuhiro Kikuchi are joining the cast as the parents of the heroine, Yumeko.
The series, which began airing this week on Tokyo MX and Sun TV, is led by Aya Endō as Yumeko Kōda and Yūma Uchida as Keisuke Yūki.
The music is shaping up nicely too. Uchida performs the ending theme, I’m Glad It’s Me, while the group GANG PARADE handles the upbeat opening song.
The story is a heartfelt romantic comedy that follows Yumeko as she works through her insecurities and finds love, treating its body positive themes with warmth and humor rather than cruelty.
mamakari’s manga has built a loyal following, and an English edition is available for readers abroad through the MangaPlaza service.
My take: Casting Yumeko’s parents and pairing the show with such cheerful theme songs suggests a real focus on warmth. I keep coming back to how much I appreciate a romance this kind hearted toward its lead.
