Chainsaw Man Reze Arc Film Hits US and UK Cinemas October 24
Chainsaw Man fans outside Japan finally get their turn. Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc opens in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from Friday, October 24, with tickets on sale now, and Sony Pictures UK has put up an English subtitled trailer on its channel.
Sony Pictures Entertainment holds the worldwide theatrical rights and is bringing the film to the United States on the same day, October 24. It already premiered in Japan back on September 19. Reina Ueda voices the character at the heart of this arc, Reze.
As MAPPA tells it, the story picks up with Denji now serving as a devil hunter in Special Division 4. After a date with Makima, the woman he adores, he ducks out of the rain and meets Reze, a gentle girl working at a café, and things grow complicated from there.
The music is a real highlight. Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada team up on the ending theme “JANE DOE,” Yonezu also handles the main theme “IRIS OUT,” and Maximum The Hormone contributes a longer cut of a song they had held back for years, partly because its later lyrics tie into Reze herself.
The television anime first aired in October 2022 and streams on Crunchyroll in well over 200 countries. It all comes from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s hugely popular manga, which began in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018, moved into a second part on Shonen Jump+ in 2022, and has won the Harvey Award for Best Manga three years running.
My take: The Reze arc is one of the most beloved stretches of the whole manga, so seeing it on the big screen with this kind of music lineup feels like a real event. If you have the chance to catch it in a theater, I would not wait.
