Uma Musume Cinderella Gray Part 2 Premieres in Hollywood

Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray is heading to the big screen for a celebration. REMOW announced on Monday that the world premiere of the anime’s second cours will take place on October 4 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, as part of the Global Stage Hollywood event. The screening is free, and RSVPs are open.

The new run then begins streaming on October 5. In North America it will play on the It’s Anime FAST channel on Samsung TV Plus, with further streaming on Amazon Prime Video in select regions and the It’s Anime YouTube channel across countries including the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. Viewers in Latin America can watch on Anime Onegai, and parts of Europe can follow along on ADN. The band 10 FEET performs the new opening theme.

The series first aired on April 6 on TBS and 27 affiliated stations, and it is running as two cours with a break in between. Takehiro Miura and Yuki Ito are directing at Cygames, with series composition by Aki Kindaichi and character designs by Takuya Miyahara and Keigo Sasaki.

The manga, by Taiyo Kuzumi, began in Weekly Young Jump in June 2020 and reached its 21st volume in September. It paused briefly in the summer to prepare for its final arc before returning in July, and it centers on the beloved racer Oguri Cap. The wider Uma Musume franchise already spans several anime seasons, a film, and a popular mobile game.

My take: A Hollywood premiere for a horse girl racing anime is a wonderfully unexpected sight, and a sign of how far this franchise has run. Oguri Cap’s story is a warm one, so it is nice to see it get the red carpet treatment.
