Hunter x Hunter 417 Spoilers: Benjamin Poisons the Princes
The Hunter x Hunter 417 spoilers give Benjamin the biggest body count of the Succession War so far, and he does most of it without lifting a weapon. The chapter is called “Emergency”, and it is the one where the First Prince stops pretending. So here is everything that happens.

What you need from chapters 415 and 416
Two threads matter going in. First, Furykov used his Nen laptop to work out that he has been cursed, and that deciphering it would take a full year he does not have. Beyond Netero needs that curse to reach the royals, and Benjamin quietly benefits either way.
Second, and this is the important one, Tserriednich set a trap. He told his guard to hide his ability, put his body straight into a coffin, and tell everyone exactly what he saw. His own words were that the death would be a ruse.
Meanwhile Kurapika sent an encrypted letter out to Gon and Killua. Then Benjamin declared martial law and started moving.
Hunter x Hunter 417 spoilers: Benjamin kills the Fourth Prince
Benjamin catches Tserriednich in Zetsu and opens fire, then crushes his head and stamps on him. He is openly delighted, calling his brother a cockroach and telling the room the man was rubbish who needed putting down.
However, we already know what Benjamin does not. Chapter 418 has since confirmed that the corpse was an illusion made by Tserriednich’s Parallel Future. The Fourth Prince is alive, and the First Prince just wasted his best moment on a fake.
The poison plan
Benjamin then uses martial law as cover to gather his siblings. He tells Fifth Prince Tubeppa and Sixth Prince Tyson that a dangerous chemical has been stolen, which conveniently explains the lockdown.
It is a lie. He releases the TSK 17 virus as a gas and infects them both while they sit at the table with him. He had already infected Second Prince Camilla. Therefore his plan is now plain. Kill the princes he can reach, and infect the ones he cannot.
He also notes that the Third and Seventh have fled, and he suspects Ninth Prince Halkenburg of moving his consciousness into another body. Balsamilco is in custody but cleared, because he passed every question Benjamin’s guards put to him.
Benjamin is dying too
Then the chapter turns on him. Balsamilco suggests the others should keep their distance, so Benjamin tells everyone to use Gyo. The infection is sitting in his own eyes.
He is carrying three separate death sentences. TSK 17, Camilla’s curse from her bodyguard, and Beyond Netero’s Nen curse. That leaves him about half a day. Any other prince would fall apart. Benjamin simply orders his soldiers to keep killing.
The Guardian Spirit Beast and his mother
His calm has a reason. Benjamin’s Guardian Spirit Beast, The Wandering People, merges with his Nen when he dies and passes into a blood relative. In his mind that makes him a permanent guardian of Kakin rather than a casualty.
The last beat is the coldest. Benjamin turns his attention to First Queen Unma, his own mother, because he believes she has been steering the destruction of the royal family. So the man who just poisoned his siblings is now working out whether he is the player or the piece.

Togashi took a short break after 417. Chapter 418 landed on August 23 2026 at 11am Eastern, and it is the chapter that confirms the Tserriednich illusion. Both go up on Viz and MANGA Plus at the same time.
Where the Succession War stands
Benjamin has Areas A and B, control of Tier 3, and roughly twelve hours. Camilla, Tubeppa and Tyson are infected. Tserriednich is alive and nobody knows it. In short, the First Prince is winning on paper and losing badly in reality.

My take: Benjamin has always been the most straightforward prince, and this chapter turns that into his flaw. He gets his big triumphant kill, gloats over the body, and it is a puppet. Togashi lets him have the whole scene precisely so it can be worthless. I also think the mother reveal is the real story here. Benjamin spends the chapter certain he is the one moving pieces, then ends it wondering if he was moved. That doubt is far more frightening than the poison, and it is the most human Togashi has ever let this man be.
