Marriagetoxin Manga Gets Studio Bones Anime Adaptation for 2026
Shueisha has announced a television anime for Marriagetoxin, the action comedy manga by Joumyaku and Mizuki Yoda, with BONES Film handling animation production. The series is set to air in 2026, and the announcement came alongside a teaser trailer, character visuals, and the first cast and staff information.
The story follows Hikaru Gero, heir to the centuries-old Poison Masters Clan and a highly trained assassin who has spent his whole life in the underworld with zero romantic experience. When the head of the Gero family threatens to force his sister to carry on the bloodline instead, Hikaru decides to find a wife himself. His unlikely solution: ask Mei Kinosaki, a skilled marriage swindler who also happens to be his assassination target, to become his matchmaking advisor. Mei, despite having a polished exterior and the ability to charm almost anyone in thirty seconds, turns out to have an enormous appetite and a genuinely caring heart beneath all the calculation.
Haruki Ishiya voices Hikaru and Shion Wakayama voices Mei. Motonobu Hori, known for Carole and Tuesday, is directing, with Kohei Tokuoka on character design and chief animation direction, Kimiko Ueno writing the series composition and scripts, and Taisei Iwasaki along with yuma yamaguchi composing the music together.
Original creator Joumyaku praised the production team warmly, saying the staff understanding of the work is on another level and that after watching voice recording for Episode 1, he is convinced the anime will without a doubt be a masterpiece.
The manga currently has 14 volumes available and is serialized weekly on Shonen Jump+ with international availability through Shueisha’s official global reading service. The 15th volume launched October 3, 2025.
My take: An assassin with zero romantic skills being dragged into a marriage mission by a swindler is a great comedic setup, and having Studio Bones on board makes this one genuinely worth watching for. Motonobu Hori directing is a solid fit for a story that needs both action and heart to land right.
