Kami Kill Manga by Odd Taxi Creator Comes to English
Shueisha announced on Wednesday that Kazuya Konomoto and Ryō Yamasaki’s manga Kami Kill is now available in English through its official reading service. The first eight chapters can be read right away.
The story takes place on a run down shopping street, where brothers Fuji and Kiri keep a small barbershop running while they wait for their father to come home. Just trying to get by, they find that each day seems to bring some new oddity through their door.
Part of the appeal is the talent behind it. Konomoto is known for acclaimed works like Seto Utsumi, Odd Taxi, and Housenka, and here teams with a standout artist for a quirky, heartfelt, and faintly mysterious tale about brothers, barbers, and the strange things that find them.
The pair launched the series in Shueisha’s Young Jump on August 21, and the first collected volume followed in Japan on October 17.
My take: Anything from the mind behind Odd Taxi instantly has my attention, since that writer has such a gift for warmth hiding inside the strange. A cozy barbershop mystery sounds like exactly my kind of offbeat charm.
