Highschool of the Dead Recap: One School Day Ends the World

This Highschool of the Dead recap starts on the morning the world quietly ended. Takashi Komuro is sulking on the school walkway when a stranger bites a teacher at the front gate, and within an hour the entire school is a feeding ground.

Takashi saves Rei, the childhood sweetheart he never got over, but he cannot save her boyfriend, and that guilt shadows every choice he makes afterward. The survivors he gathers are the best thing in the series: Saeko, the kendo captain who is a little too calm around violence, Saya, the genius who narrates her own brilliance, Kohta, the gun otaku who finally gets to matter, and Shizuka, the school nurse who somehow keeps them all breathing.

The recap follows the group from the school escape through the dead city, the river crossing, the mall standoff and the highway, while the real danger keeps shifting from the dead to the living. Highschool of the Dead never received a second season, so a full recap is the fastest honest way to experience the whole story.
