Ghost of Tsushima Legends Anime Arrives in 2027
The Ghost of Tsushima anime is taking shape. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends revealed new character visuals during Anime Expo 2026, ahead of its planned 2027 release. Studio KAMIKAZE DOUGA, known for its striking stylized work, is handling the animation.
From PlayStation hit to anime
The Legends name comes from the game’s cooperative multiplayer mode, which leaned into the supernatural side of Tsushima’s mythology rather than the grounded samurai drama of the main story. That is fertile ground for an anime: cursed warriors, oni and folklore let a studio like Kamikaze Douga go visually wild in ways a straight adaptation of Jin Sakai’s story would not.
Game adaptations have quietly become one of anime’s most reliable lanes, and PlayStation properties in particular keep landing strong creative teams. With the visuals now public and a 2027 window holding, this one is further along than most game announcements manage at the same stage.
The source game earned its place as one of PlayStation’s defining exclusives, and its cooperative Legends mode surprised everyone by becoming a cult favorite in its own right, with players treating its mythological missions as some of the best content in the package. An anime that starts from the folklore rather than the history gives Kamikaze Douga license to be expressive, and that studio does expressive better than almost anyone.
The character visuals were reported by Anime Corner.
My take: Adapting the weird multiplayer mythology instead of the main campaign is the smartest choice they could have made. Let anime be anime.
