Futari Escape Manga Returns With a Special New Chapter
Shōichi Taguchi shared on X this past Saturday that the manga Futari Escape, known in English as Our Escape, has received a special new chapter. It appeared in a recent issue of Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime to celebrate the series’ new live action adaptation.
The manga originally ran in Comic Yuri Hime from July 2020 until it wrapped in December 2022, with its fourth and final volume arriving in February 2023. Seven Seas publishes it in English.
It is a cozy comedy about two young women, one an overworked manga artist and the other a cheerful slacker, who keep finding little ways to escape the pressures of adult life, whether that means splurging on a lavish meal or taking a spur of the moment trip together.
The live action version is a late night weekly series that premiered on the TV Osaka and TV Aichi channels on October 4, and it also streams in Japan on Lemino Premium and TVer. It stars Nogizaka46 members Renka Iwamoto and Nao Tomisato as the two leads.
Taguchi is also known for I Sold My Life for Ten Thousand Yen Per Year, a manga based on Sugaru Miaki’s novel Three Days of Happiness that ran on Shonen Jump Plus from 2016 to 2017.
My take: A surprise new chapter for a finished, comforting series is such a sweet gift to fans. Futari Escape is the kind of low key, relaxing story I am always happy to spend time with.
