Firefighter Daigo Creators Launch Motorsports Manga in 2026
The 22nd issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Superior announced on Friday that Masahito Soda and Kuro Tomiyama are starting a brand new manga together. The series, still untitled for now, has a motorsports theme and is set to begin in the magazine next spring.
The pair are best known for Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange, which they began in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine in October 2020. Its first collected volume arrived in April 2021, the twelfth came out on August 12, and the series was nominated for Best Shonen Manga at the 47th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2023.
That series has had a winding run. Its first part wrapped in February 2024, and after returning from a break it went back on hiatus on October 6. Its anime adaptation premiered in September 2023, with a second cours following in January 2024, and Crunchyroll streamed it as it aired in Japan.
Soda has deep roots in this world. Viz Media released all 20 volumes of his original Firefighter! Daigo of Fire Company M, which he serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1995 to 1999. His other works include Capeta, The Tenth Prism, and Subaru.
My take: Soda has a real gift for stories about people chasing something with their whole heart, so a motorsports manga sounds like a natural fit. I am genuinely looking forward to seeing what this new team up brings.
