Devils Crest Anime Adds Four New Cast Members
Reki Kawahara’s first new series since Sword Art Online keeps filling out its classroom. Devils’ Crest, the Production I.G adaptation of Kawahara’s Dengeki Bunko novels, has added four voice actors: Yusuke Kobayashi, Maaya Uchida, Rie Murakawa and Sora Amamiya, all playing classmates of the 11 year old lead. The show premieres November 6, 2026, worldwide on Prime Video. Here is who they play, the full cast so far, the premise, why this is not just Sword Art Online with kids, and the numbers behind Kawahara’s comeback.

The new Devils’ Crest cast
| Actor | Character | You know them from |
|---|---|---|
| Yusuke Kobayashi | Teruki Sugamo | Subaru in Re:Zero, Senku in Dr. Stone, Arthur in Fire Force |
| Maaya Uchida | Aria Misono | Rikka in Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions, Hiyori in Noragami, Norman in The Promised Neverland |
| Rie Murakawa | Kai Kisanuki | Ram in Re:Zero, Hotaru in Non Non Biyori |
| Sora Amamiya | Sumika Watamaki | Aqua in KonoSuba, Akame in Akame ga Kill, Touka in Tokyo Ghoul |
Amamiya is a returning face: she voiced Sumika in the novel’s 2022 promotional video. Sumika matters. She is the popular classmate who turns into a monster, the first sign in the story that something has gone very wrong.
The cast so far
Haruka Shiraishi voices the lead, Yuma Ashihara, and Konomi Inagaki plays his twin sister Sawa, both announced in March. Yuya Hirose as Kenji “Kenk” Kondo and Satomi Amano as Minagi Sano were revealed at Anime Expo in July. With today’s four, the core party and the first wave of classmates are set, and the novels have roughly 40 classmates with their own traits, so expect more of these announcements.
What Devils’ Crest is about
It is 2031 and mixed reality technology has reshaped daily life. Yuma is a sixth grader chosen as a playtester for Actual Magic, a full dive VRMMO. When he logs out, the game does not. It fuses with the real world and his entire class is sealed inside a survival game with real stakes. Sumika becomes a monster. Yuma’s sister Sawa is possessed by a demon called Valac, who happens to be the only guide the kids have. Yuma’s party follows Valac’s directions to find a missing friend, and the novel’s volume titles map the escalation: Reality Erosion, Otherworld Manifestation, Demonspawn Awakening, and a struggle for hegemony.

Why it is not Sword Art Online with kids
Sword Art Online traps players inside a game with rules everyone understands. Accel World is near future augmented reality among teenagers. Devils’ Crest breaks the boundary between the game and reality itself, puts ordinary 11 year olds in the middle of it with no safety net, and adds possession and horror. It is an ensemble survival story, not a solo power fantasy, and coverage has settled on “SAO on steroids” as the shorthand. The younger cast is the biggest gamble and the biggest difference.
Studio, staff and music
Production I.G animates, with CG by REIRS. Shinji Ushiro of Yo kai Watch is chief director and Kenichiro Komaya of Nina the Starry Bride directs. The scripts come from Eiji Umehara, who writes Re:Zero, which means three Re:Zero alumni are now on the show between him, Kobayashi and Murakawa. Yukiko Horiguchi, the novel’s illustrator and the designer behind K On!, adapts her own characters. Yuki Hayashi of My Hero Academia and Haikyu!! composes with Naoyuki Chikatani. The opening theme is “Shinka” by Ado, revealed at Anime Expo.

The source and the numbers
Kawahara’s novel launched in November 2022 under Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko and sits at four volumes, the latest from December 2025. Yen Press publishes it in English, with volume 3 out at the end of last year. It is Kawahara’s first all new series after SAO, Accel World and The Isolator. A vertical webtoon by Koroku Takano and TOmoe has run on HykeComic since 2022. The anime was announced on December 2, 2025 and is produced with Warner Bros. Japan.
Where to watch Devils’ Crest
Prime Video, worldwide, from November 6, 2026. Amazon has it as an exclusive, so do not expect it on Crunchyroll.

My take: The casting is the tell here, and what it tells me is that Devils’ Crest is being built as an ensemble drama, not a Kawahara action show. You do not hire Kobayashi, Uchida, Murakawa and Amamiya for four classmates unless those classmates are going to carry scenes, and you do not hand the scripts to the Re:Zero writer unless you want the suffering to land. That is the right instinct, because the thing that made SAO a phenomenon and the thing that made SAO frustrating are the same: Kirito wins. A class of 11 year olds cannot win, and the story is honest about that, which is why the survival horror framing works. My concern is Warner Bros. Japan and Prime Video. Amazon has been buying anime exclusives for years and they mostly vanish. Vinland Saga and Chainsaw Man got big despite Amazon, not because of it, and both had Crunchyroll or Netflix reach elsewhere. A worldwide Prime exclusive with weekly episodes needs the platform to actually promote it, and Amazon’s record on that is thin. Ado on the opening is the marketing lever, and Ado alone got Oshi no Ko’s song to a billion streams, so maybe that is enough. Prediction: the show is good, the kid cast is the reason it works, and it underperforms its quality because half the audience does not know it exists until the finale.
