Dagashi Kashi Recap: The Candy Obsessed Girl and the Shop

This Dagashi Kashi recap follows the strangest business trip in anime. Hotaru Shidare, heiress to a major snack company, arrives in a sleepy coastal town with one goal: recruit the owner of a tiny traditional sweets shop into her empire.

The owner refuses unless his son Kokonotsu, who wants to draw manga rather than sell candy, agrees to take over the shop. So Hotaru stays for the summer, and the show becomes a love letter to dagashi, cheap Japanese sweets, with an entire comedy episode’s worth of passion behind each one.

The recap covers Hotaru’s candy sermons, the friends Saya and Tou who keep the town feeling real, the slow question of what Kokonotsu actually wants and the odd tenderness underneath all the sugar.
