Daily Lives of High School Girls Manga Begins October 18
The November issue of Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan revealed on Friday that Yasunobu Yamauchi has launched a new manga called Joshi Kōkōsei no Nichijō, or Daily Lives of High School Girls, on the Gangan Online website on October 18. The magazine teased it with the playful line that high school girls can be silly too.
The title is a clear companion to Yamauchi’s earlier hit, Daily Lives of High School Boys, which ran on Gangan Online from 2009 to 2012 and was collected into seven volumes.
That series became a fan favorite for its affectionate, absurd take on teenage life. It was published in English by Vertical, with a digital edition through Square Enix’s Manga UP! Global service.
It also spread well beyond the page, inspiring a television anime in 2012 that NIS America released on home video, along with a live action film the following year.
With this new girls focused companion now underway, fans of the original have a fresh reason to look forward to Yamauchi’s signature brand of gentle, goofy humor.
My take: The original is one of my favorite comedies for capturing how funny everyday nonsense can be, so a girls side series is genuinely exciting. I cannot wait to see that same warm silliness with a new cast.
