Square Enix Teases New Dissidia Final Fantasy Mobile Game
Square Enix has fans of its crossover fighters paying attention again. On Sunday the company quietly opened a website for a brand new Dissidia Final Fantasy game built for iOS and Android, with a fuller reveal promised on Tuesday.
According to the official site, this one is a “Team Boss Battle Arena” game, which is a fresh direction for the series. A video with more details was set to go live on October 14 at 7:00 p.m. JST, which is 6:00 a.m. EDT, and it comes in both English and Japanese.

It is worth remembering how much road this series has already traveled. The smartphone game Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia arrived in Japan in February 2017 and reached the West in January 2018, before finally ending service in February 2024.
The console and arcade side has its own long history. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, the PlayStation 4 take on the arcade game, shipped in Japan in 2015 and came to North America across four editions in 2016. The arcade original launched in Japan in November 2015 and closed its network services in April 2020.
Further back, the very first Dissidia Final Fantasy was a PlayStation Portable fighting game stuffed with Final Fantasy heroes and villains, released in 2008 in Japan and 2009 elsewhere. The sequel, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, followed in 2011 with new characters, stages, and a fresh story.
My take: After Opera Omnia’s quiet sending off, it is lovely to see the Dissidia name return, though I do hope a team battle arena keeps some of that classic one on one spark alive.
