Witch Watch Confirms a Second Season After Its Finale

The 25th and final episode of the Witch Watch anime aired on Sunday, and it closed with welcome news: a second season is on the way. The announcement came with a celebratory illustration of the full cast grinning together.

The series, based on Kenta Shinohara’s manga, premiered in Japan on April 6 across MBS, TBS, and a wide network of affiliated channels, with its second cour starting at the end of June.

Its reach abroad has been broad. Crunchyroll, Netflix, and several other platforms streamed it as it aired, the English dub arrived in late April, and dubs followed in French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai. GKIDS even brought the first three episodes to North American theaters.

The story follows Morihito Otogi, descended from a line of ogre familiars and blessed with inhuman strength, who learns he must serve as the familiar of his childhood friend Nico, a teenage witch. Hiroshi Ikehata directed at Bibury Animation Studio.

My take: A finale that doubles as a renewal announcement is the happiest kind of send off. Witch Watch has built a genuinely warm following, and that group illustration tells you everything about its cheerful spirit.
