Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family! Anime Reveals Its Premise and Theme Songs
More details are emerging about the upcoming anime based on Nanateru’s manga Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai, with the staff announcing three new cast members and confirming the show’s musical lineup.
The series premieres on October 5 on AT-X, with streaming in Japan the same night, followed by broadcasts on Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, TV Aichi, and BS Asahi. Crunchyroll carries it worldwide outside Japan and mainland China under the title Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family!
At its heart, the comedy follows Alma, a wildly advanced weapon built in the shape of a girl, and the two brilliant scientists who made her, Enji Kamisato and Suzume Yobane. The hook is that this living weapon simply wants the warmth of an ordinary family.
On the music side, ZAQ performs the opening theme Dramatic Overlay, while KAF sings the ending theme Arifuretetai, which translates to I Want to Be Ordinary, a title that fits the story beautifully.
Yasuhiro Minami directs at Studio Flad, with Yukie Sugawara handling series composition.
My take: A super weapon who only wishes to be part of a normal family is such a tender premise, and that ending theme title says everything. I am genuinely curious how the comedy balances the warmth with the absurdity.
