Gals Cant Be Kind to Otaku Manga Gets Anime Debut in 2026
Coamix has announced that Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? (Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?), the romantic comedy manga by Norishiro-chan and Sakana Uozumi, is getting an anime. The series is set to debut in 2026, though no format details were shared at this time.
The manga has been running in Monthly Comic Zenon since August 2021. Norishiro-chan writes the story and Uozumi handles the art. The series reached its tenth volume in June 2025, with the eleventh due out on October 20. Yen Press is releasing the manga in English, with the first volume going on sale October 28, 2025.
The story follows Takuya Seo, a self-professed otaku who happens to sit right behind two popular gals in his class, Ijichi and Amane. When a simple moment over a borrowed eraser leads to an anime discussion, Amane corrects Takuya with more knowledge than she should have if she really has no interest in the genre. The question of whether she is secretly a fellow fan is the hook that pulls the whole story forward.
Norishiro-chan has another anime in the works as well. The television adaptation of Kizetsu Yūsha to Ansatsu Hime (The Shy Hero and the Assassin Princesses), another manga Norishiro-chan wrote, premiered on July 5, 2025 and is currently airing on Crunchyroll.
My take: The idea that someone we write off as being from a completely different world might actually share our passions is a reliable emotional premise for this kind of rom com, and this manga has clearly connected with readers given its run length and licensing interest. Two anime from the same writer in the same year is a strong vote of confidence.
