Top 10 Anime to Binge on Halloween Night

Halloween calls for something you can finish in a night, or at least make a serious dent in. These ten are ranked on spooky atmosphere, bingeability and how well they fit a bowl of candy and a dark room. Pure horror got its own list; this one is about fun.

The rankings

1. Soul Eater. A school for weapon meisters, a laughing moon and the most Halloween aesthetic in anime. Fifty one episodes, but the first arc is a perfect night.
2. Zombie Land Saga. Idol zombies saving a prefecture. Joyful, weird and twelve episodes.
3. Dandadan. Ghosts versus aliens, with Turbo Granny as the mascot of the season.
4. Hellsing Ultimate. Ten OVAs of vampire carnage. Watch four and call it a night.
5. Death Parade. A bar between life and death where the dead play games for their souls.
6. Mob Psycho 100. Exorcism as a workplace comedy.
7. Blue Exorcist. Satan’s son enrolls in exorcist school. Easy, fun, spooky adjacent.
8. The Ancient Magus’ Bride. Gentle fantasy with a skull headed husband.
9. Yamishibai. Four minute ghost stories in the style of paper theater. Perfect between other shows.
10. Ghost Stories. The infamous English dub. Not scary, but the funniest thing you will watch all October.

Movie option

If you want one film, Perfect Blue for fear or Spirited Away for wonder. Either fits the night.

My take: Soul Eater is the Halloween anime. Put on the first episode, look at that moon, and you will understand.
