Firefly Wedding Trailer Reveals iri Opening Before October 9
Firefly Wedding is two weeks out and it just played its best card. The main trailer arrived with the opening theme, a new song called Period written by iri specifically for the series. The anime premieres October 9 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block and streams on Crunchyroll.
The fall season’s dark horse romance
Oreco Tachibana’s manga is one of the strangest, most compelling romances in recent shojo: Satoko Kirigaya, a noblewoman with a fatal illness and very little time, offers marriage to Shinpei Goto, the assassin sent to kidnap her, as a way to secure her family’s future. What follows is part period drama, part obsession story, and it has built a fierce readership precisely because it refuses to be comfortable.
David Production, best known for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, is animating, and the trailer’s mix of Taisho era elegance and sudden violence suggests the studio understands the assignment.
Why iri matters
Noitamina series live and die by their tone, and an original song from iri signals that the production is treating Firefly Wedding as prestige television rather than a seasonal filler. The trailer was reported by Anime Corner.
My take: This is the fall premiere I am most curious about. If David Production keeps the manga’s nerve, Firefly Wedding could be the season’s breakout.
