The Cat and the Dragon Season 2 Confirmed for 2027
The Cat and the Dragon is coming back. The gentle fantasy about a dragon raising a kitten, known in Japan as Neko to Ryu, has been confirmed for a second television season set to air in 2027. The announcement arrived alongside a trailer immediately after the first season’s finale on September 19.
The quiet hit of the summer
Nobody expected a show about a lonely dragon adopting a stray cat to become one of the most talked about series of the season, but that is what happened. The Cat and the Dragon runs on warmth rather than spectacle: a creature that has outlived everything it loved finds a small, stubborn reason to care about the world again. It is the kind of premise that sounds slight and turns out to hit harder than most battle shonen.
A same night renewal is a strong sign. Committees do not commit to a 2027 slot on the spot unless the numbers and the reaction both justify it.
What to expect
The manga has plenty of material still unadapted, so season two should keep the same episodic, slow burn rhythm rather than rushing to an ending. The announcement was reported by Anime Corner.
My take: Every season needs one show that lowers your heart rate, and this was it. More of the dragon and the cat is the easiest yes of the year.
