What happened in Mission 140

Mission 140 was a gentle chapter, and it landed beautifully. Loid left the hospital and went straight back to WISE, even though he clearly was not better yet. Fiona apologised to him about how the Desmond job went. Then the story handed the spotlight to Anya.

Anya was out on an Eden plant identification trip. Meanwhile, she recognised a medicinal root that was supposed to settle a bad stomach. So she went after it for her father.

Damian complained about the whole outing at first. Then he abandoned his book and his friends to follow her anyway. He caught her twice when she slipped, and he refused to admit why.

Yor, meanwhile, had exactly the same idea completely on her own. She went out and gathered the same plant without telling anybody.

Finally the family sat down and drank the brew together. It was bitter. Nobody enjoyed a single sip. That is precisely why the scene worked.

What to expect from Spy x Family 141

Endo has not teased the next mission, so treat anything circulating online as a guess. Still, the open threads are easy to name. Loid is back at work while recovering. Fiona is unsettled. Damian just spent a whole chapter being kind and will almost certainly deny it happened.

The production runs as two acts. Act one adapts the arc where Bond joins the family. Act two moves onto the luxury cruise, so the stage gets its big action sequence.

Loid and Yor are dual cast again. Win Morisaki and Kento Kinouchi share Loid, while Fuka Yuzuki and Kiho Maaya share Yor. TOHO is producing.

Previews opened at Westa Kawagoe in Saitama. After that the show moves to Tokyo Tatemono Brillia Hall, then to Hakataza in Fukuoka in November, and finally to Hyogo, Aichi and Yamagata in December.

My take: Mission 140 is the kind of chapter I will still be thinking about in a year. Nobody confessed anything. Nobody said the word family out loud. Loid simply drank something awful because three people who love him went and found it for him. That is the entire series in one quiet page, and I hope Mission 141 holds that tone for a little longer before Endo turns the plot back on.
