One Piece 1191 Release Date and Hiatus Update
The One Piece 1191 release date is Sunday August 23 2026, and the wait has been a long one. Weekly Shonen Jump paused for the Obon holiday, so the manga skipped a week. Oda is fine, by the way. This was a magazine wide break, not a health break. So here is the date, the reason, and where the story stands.

One Piece 1191 release date and time
Chapter 1191 goes live on August 23 2026 at 11am Eastern in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 39. Read it officially on Viz Media or Shueisha’s MANGA Plus. Both keep the newest chapters free for a short window.
One more thing worth knowing. Chapter 1192 is expected on August 30, and Oda usually rests after three chapters in a row. Therefore another short break is likely soon after. Nothing is confirmed yet, so treat that as a pattern rather than a promise.
Why One Piece went on a break
This one was simple. Obon is observed across Japan every August, and Weekly Shonen Jump takes the week off entirely. Every series in the magazine paused, not just One Piece. So there is no reason to worry about Oda here.

One Piece 1190 recap: Gaban against Imu
Chapter 1190 picked up right where Gaban’s save left off. He pulls the blades out of Luffy, then vanishes and reappears fast enough to unsettle Imu. When Imu asks who he is, Gaban answers that he is a connoisseur of the world. It is a great line.
Then he does something nobody expected. He picks up Gear 5 Luffy by the face and tells him he is a disappointment. He explains why so many people want the Pirate King dead, decides Luffy is not ready to carry that title, and throws him clear of the fight.

After that he turns on Imu properly. He opens with his Praying Mantis Plum and Praying Mantis Axe techniques. Meanwhile Luffy lies there furious, telling his own body to heal right now.
Gaban names his captain
The heart of the chapter is a conversation. Imu keeps insisting Luffy has to die, and Gaban asks the obvious question. Does the boy remind you that much of Joy Boy?
Then Gaban says the quiet part out loud. His crew never served Joy Boy. They served Gol D. Roger, and their only motive is to finish their captain’s dream. Imu spits back that someone as disgusting as a D could never be the Pirate King.

Gaban remembers Roger saying that someone would surpass them all one day. He believes that person is Monkey D. Luffy. Imu calls it coincidence. Gaban calls it destiny, and says he will happily be the enemy of a destiny Imu refuses to accept.
The cost of the fight
Gaban cuts the sacred tree Adam to buy Luffy room, and he is clearly sorry about it. Then Imu winds up an attack, and Gaban answers with a huge burst of Conqueror’s Haki that leaves Imu bleeding. He follows with his Bone Eater strike while laughing in Imu’s face.
However, the last page is grim. The tree comes down, and Gaban is lying there with his left arm destroyed. Oda has a habit of wrecking the people who step in front of Luffy. So keep that arm in mind, because it may matter later.

One Piece 1191 spoilers, and why we are careful with them
Leaks are circulating already. We do not run leaks as fact, so read this section as rumour and nothing more. None of it is confirmed until the chapter is out.
The claims going around say Zoro is still fighting Sommers and picks up a new transformation. They also say Imu recognises Gaban from God Valley and regrets not finishing him alongside Rocks. There is talk of Hajrudin knocking Imu back, Loki arriving, Luffy healing by eating his stored food, and a combined attack from Loki, Luffy and Hajrudin.
Some of that sounds plausible. Some of it sounds like wish fulfilment. Because of that, we will update this post once the official chapter lands.

My take: Gaban losing an arm hurts more than I expected. He got one glorious chapter, said the coolest line in the arc, and paid for it immediately. Still, I think that is the point. Oda keeps showing us that Imu costs people something real, and a clean heroic rescue would have cheapened it. What I liked most was Gaban refusing the Joy Boy framing entirely. He is not part of a prophecy. He is a man finishing his captain’s errand, and that is a far better reason to swing an axe.
